Defining Prehospital Blood Transfusion
The inaugural session of the EMS Focus: Prehospital Blood webinar series opened with remarks from NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison and featured an expert panel discussing the role of prehospital blood transfusion in improving survival for patients with life-threatening hemorrhage, including those injured in serious motor vehicle crashes. Panelists explored the essential components of a prehospital blood transfusion program, the blood products EMS can administer in the field, the fundamental role of blood in the body, and the differences between whole blood and component therapy. The discussion also highlighted NHTSA's mission and role in advancing strategies that save lives on U.S. roadways.
