EMS Compass

EMS Compass developed a process to create performance measures to improve the quality of care at the local, regional, state and national levels.

Background

Begun in 2014, the EMS Compass initiative spent two years engaging with EMS stakeholders to develop a process for designing, testing and evaluating performance measures to improve EMS systems of care. Due to the increasing availability of standardized data, the initiative sought to lay the groundwork for agencies and the EMS community to measure and evaluate performance.

Conclusion

In late 2016, the EMS Compass team released candidate measures for public testing, and anticipates that the EMS community will continue to develop performance measures using the initiative’s process. The final measures, helpful resources and additional information are available on the project website.

Who’s Involved

EMS Compass was funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Office of EMS and led by the National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO).
