Drew Dawson accepts the Ronald D. Stewart, MD, Award presented by Jane H. Brice, MD, MPH, President of NAEMSP, during its annual luncheon in San Diego in January.

At its annual awards luncheon held on January 16 in San Diego, the National Association of EMS Physicians presented former NHTSA Office of EMS Director Drew Dawson with the Ronald D. Stewart, MD, Award. The award, given annually for outstanding contributions in prehospital emergency care, was given to Dawson "for his dedication and commitment to the development of quality emergency medical services throughout the world."

Dawson, who started his EMS journey more than four decades ago as an EMT, retired in October after more than 12 years with the Office of EMS. John Marshall, director of the NHTSA Office of Safety Programs, is currently serving as acting director of the Office of EMS. A search for a permanent replacement for Dawson is underway.
